Walsoorden - Zeeland Province - The Netherlands
We started using in Walsoorden in 2008 as DXpedition location. Zeeland is a pretty flat rural location and where our site is located, it is a farm that has been turned into a DX retreat for mainly amateur radio operators. Erik Vervaet PI4DX and his friends use this for ham contests.
Its a very comfy house designed specifically to cater for DXers. It can house up to 6 of us at one time and for HF all the antenna's are already there. For MW and LW we still have to put out our beverages through the fields. DX from Walsoorden has been mixed. We have heard the odd good station from here. We mainly concentrate on Mediumwave to Nth America and Asia. We put out an Asian beverage at 60 degrees and in past years to Nth America at about 270 degrees. In November 2012 the trip was not so pleasant because of noise on the bands. We are hoping that it was only an isolated incident but also 2012 has not been kind to us with propagation conditions. The past few trips we have also been experimenting with flag and loop antennas. |
