The dx has really dried up these past few days. Nothing new and not even the Russian's from the north. Have been hoping for a couple more openings into Asia and across the T/A. Its a waiting game.

Happy to have a another new station overnight on 2187.5 with Coast station: Malta RCC Malta. Other interesting signals were from Samsun in Turkey and also Bergen in Norway.

It has been interesting running the Perseus with the PA0RDT Mini Whip and the Icom R75 with ALA 1530 loop. on 2187.5 there has hardly been any difference in the directivity of signals. It appears to me that the ALA 1530 becomes more omni-directional at 2 Mhz compared to longwave and MW.

Logs with Icom R75 - 1.9 Filter - ALA 1530 loop - Multipsk

Have been away doing other stuff the past week or so. Have not had time to check logs. Decided to do some Dxing on 8414.5 and discovered a few interesting logs. Mind you I'm using the ALA 1530. Not exactly great for 8 Mhz. The Inverted V is currently down for repair.

Just as I was about to type how boring conditions were and I was bemoaning the lack of anything new.. I was dancing in the isles when I found my first ever Trans Atlantic logging on 2187.5 of New Orleans (7708 km). Well there you go. I have seen New Orleans and other USA stations before on Navtex 518 khz but I honestly thought that 2 Mhz would propagate far better. It hasn't turned out that way but at least its a start.

It has been interesting to go for the double whammy on 2187.5. I have started using the Mini Whip along with the ALA 1530. The Mini whip is certainly surprising me. Signals are a little bit stronger on the Mini Whip mainly I think because of its omni-directional characteristics. I wonder sometimes at what frequency the ALA starts to become omni-directional (HF) etc. Its great for MW and LW with its directivity, but I'm unsure about 2.1 Mhz.

    GMDSS (DSC)

My GMDSS logs (DSC) are for Coastal stations only. I do not do ships because the reality is you can never be too sure where the broadcast actually originates from. With Coastal stations we know exactly where they are.

Evenings I tune to 2187.5 with The Icom R75 and Perseus. I use the ALA which you can see on the left. daytime I tune to 16804.5, 12577 and 8414.5. You can see the Inverted V I use to monitor these HF frequencies

My current number of countries heard are:
    2187.5 -   xxx
    8414.5 -   xxx
    12577 -    xxx
    16804.5 - xxx
